Veliki povratak beretke / The beret is making a big comeback

Moda govori. Potrebno je samo pažljivo oslušnuti 🙂

Never forgotten, but certainly neglected, the beret is making a huge comeback to the runways. After the models of Maria Grazia Chiuri, the head designer of Dior’s fashion house, wore berets made of finest French leather in the autumn/winter 2017 ready-to-wear collection, and beautiful romantic veiled berets followed in the spring/summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection, one thing is for sure – a trend has been spotted and it’s time to upgrade your collection of berets. Bloggers and celebrities around the world embraced it as an essential accessory for this season.
Although often associated with the stereotype of French style ( a beret, a striped shirt, a bicycle and a basket of baguettes – need I say more), the beret has a really rich, and so to speak, two-sided history. On one hand, the poorest class, farmers and artists wore them throughout the 14th and 15th century. Over time, the beret became a kind of a trademark for some of the iconic names in the world of art, such as Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Edith Piaf, Brigitte Bardot … the list continues.
On the other hand, the beret has gained political significance and became a symbol of strength, masculinity, and resistance. Apart from being worn in the army, it was also worn by groups of revolutionaries and activists – including Che Guevara and members of the Black Panther movement, in combination with a black leather jacket.
Is it an accidental trend? At a time when women strive for self-improvement, become more politically active than ever, struggling to preserve the environment and do not settle for “NO” as an answer, while trying to embrace their more sensitive and creative side, it seems that the moment couldn’t be more perfect. The beret made a comeback to an “everyone should be a feminist” era, an era of technological and personal revolution. A casualty or not, time will tell. Fashion speaks. You just need to listen carefully 🙂
